Yindii Eco-Brand Awards 2024: Celebrating Sustainability Champions in Hong Kong

Hong Kong’s food sustainability movement took center stage at the Yindii Eco-Brand Awards 2024, recognizing businesses and individuals making real progress in reducing food waste and promoting sustainable practices. The event gathered industry leaders, eco-conscious brands, and influencers committed to driving change. 

In addition to celebrating outstanding efforts in sustainability, the event featured a keynote address from Christine Loh, a well-respected environmental leader, former Under Secretary for the Environment of Hong Kong, and a prominent advocate for sustainability., a well-respected environmental leader, former Under Secretary for the Environment of Hong Kong, and a prominent advocate for sustainability. She has played a key role in shaping sustainability policies, corporate strategies, and public awareness campaigns. 

Her talk, "Dealing with Waste – Everyone’s Business", emphasized the need for collective action in tackling food waste. She emphasized that businesses, consumers, and policymakers all have a role in fostering a circular economy. She also shared insights from her work on policy and advocacy, reinforcing the need for urgent and coordinated efforts to address waste challenges. 


The 2024 Award Winners 


Eco-Brand of the Year 

The leading brands recognized in this category included Maison Kayser, city’Super, and Artemis by Deesses Bakery. Maison Kayser stood out for its strong efforts in reducing food waste across its outlets, setting new records in food saving last year and reinforcing its role in sustainability. 


Food Heroes' Favorite 

This category featured some of the most impactful brands, including Artemis by Deesses Bakery, Cordis Hotel, and Romanova. Voted by Yindii’s community of over 200,000 users, Artemis by Deesses Bakery was recognized for its commitment to quality and sustainability., recognized for its commitment to quality and sustainability. One customer shared their experience, saying, "Seems like all the 'hot' products are out inside this surprise bag! Surprised for the quantity and quality received for a $35 HKD pack of bread!" 


Rising Star 

Recognized for their contributions, this category included Saint Honore Cake Shop, PARKSIDE@NINA, and Soulgood Bakery. Saint Honore Cake Shop was recognized for its growing efforts in food sustainability, offering surplus baked goods at discounted prices through Yindii. Customers can enjoy a surprise bread bag for as low as $18 HKD, making sustainable choices more accessible. 


Hotel of the Year 

Highlighted for their commitment, this category featured Rosewood Hong Kong, Astor (Eaton), and The Cityview Kowloon. Rosewood Hong Kong demonstrated a commitment to sustainability while maintaining top-tier hospitality. The hotel has taken steps to reduce food waste, with BluHouse and Butterfly Patisserie making their surplus items available through Yindii. 

Retailer of the Year 

Showcasing leadership in sustainability, this category included city’Super, Lantao, and Tai Po Chun Hing Meat Ball. city’Super integrated sustainability into its business, ensuring responsible sourcing and surplus food reduction. The retailer has led by example, creating an ethical and innovative retail experience. 


Artisan Baker of the Year 

Honoring excellence in this category, the recognized brands included The Baker & The Bottleman, Romanova, and Deerlicious Pudding. The Baker & The Bottleman achieved an 84% save ratio on Yindii, making them a leader in reducing waste while maintaining high-quality artisanal baking. 


Outstanding Supporter 

Demonstrating impact in this category, the top brands included Eaton Hong Kong, Maison Kayser, and Domain (EAST hotel). Eaton Hong Kong contributed beyond food rescue, providing the venue for this event and participating in sustainability advocacy on NowTV. Additionally, Eaton joined Yindii last July in showcasing its commitment to an ESG-driven food industry. 


Community Champion 

Feeding Hong Kong was honored as Community Champion for redistributing over 3.7 million meals last year, significantly helping those in need. This award is a special category with no additional honorees, recognizing an organization that has gone above and beyond in tackling food waste and supporting vulnerable communities. 


Eco-Voice of the Year 

Celebrating innovation and sustainability, this category recognized Karen Cheung, hkfoodtalk, and foodiegogoooo. This category recognizes individuals who use their voice and social platforms to raise awareness and drive action against food waste, educating and empowering their communities to take action now. This category recognizes individuals who use their voice and social platforms to educate and empower their community to take action now. 


Looking Ahead 

The Yindii Eco-Brand Awards 2024 recognized those making a real impact in sustainability. With continued efforts, food rescue and waste reduction will keep gaining momentum in Hong Kong.
